Who we are
WhereToHQ (wheretohq.com) is operated by Name, LLC, a Colorado limited liability company doing business as WhereToHQ, which is the data controller for the personal information described here. The core comparison tool is free and works without an account; the sections below note where that changes.
Using the tool without an account
Your selections (cities, facets, budget inputs such as household income and size, and weights) are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them between visits. This stays on your device unless you share it: the Share button encodes your current selections into the page URL, so anyone you send that link to can see the comparison it describes. Clearing your browser storage removes it. If you tap “Compare places near me,” your coordinates are used on your device only to pick nearby cities and are never sent to us.
Accounts
If you create an account, we store your email address so we can sign you in with a one-time link and associate your saved work and any subscription with you. Sign-in links are delivered through our email provider. We use short-lived session cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use passwords.
Payments
Paid plans are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects and handles your card details directly; we do not receive or store your full card number. We store your Stripe customer identifier, your plan and subscription status, and records of any brief pass, so we can give you access to what you paid for. We also store account-associated subscription and trial start and end timing to provide access and measure trial conversion. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by its own privacy policy.
Saved work and API keys
Pro features let you save comparisons, screens, client profiles, and your branding block; these are stored under your account so you can reload them. If you create API keys, we store only a one-way hash of each key (never the key itself) plus a short prefix to help you recognize it.
“Get connected” and the brief
If you submit the optional “Get connected” form, we store what you entered (email, what you are working on, timeline, optional notes) with the cities you were comparing, so WhereToHQ can contact you about that search. We may send you information about a relevant local partner, but we do not send your information to a partner without asking you again and naming the recipient. We do not sell or rent your email to mailing lists, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time.
AI features
The optional assistant, screener, and written brief send the text and comparison data you provide to our AI provider to generate output. That text is not used to identify you and is not retained by us after the response is returned. The market-signals feature summarizes public company announcements and does not involve your personal data. Do not include information you consider sensitive in free-text fields.
Advertising
The free tier shows ads served by Google AdSense; Pro sessions do not load the ad script at all. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve, measure, and where enabled personalize ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can control ad personalization at Google Ads Settings and learn more in Google's advertising policies. Where required, a consent prompt lets you choose how these technologies are used.
Analytics and logs
Separately, we use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and bounded product events. Pro funnel events record only a fixed acquisition context and a fixed event value, such as the offer shown or whether a Business sample was opened. They do not include city identifiers, facet values, client names, narrative, email, account, session, or user identifiers. When those events are enabled, the browser keeps a context record for up to 24 hours so repeated events stay within a document-level cap. The record remains in your browser and can be removed by clearing site data. We do not send these events when your browser reports Do Not Track or when the site analytics opt-out is set. Our hosting provider also keeps standard, short-lived server logs, such as IP address and requested page, for security and operations.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access or delete your account and associated data by emailing support@wheretohq.com. Depending on where you live (for example California and other US states with privacy laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or limit certain uses of your data; we honor these requests. We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
We keep account and billing records for as long as your account is active and as needed to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations, then delete or anonymize them. Active “Get connected” submissions are available to us for up to 90 days, then removed during the daily deletion job. Backup copies follow our database provider's recovery-retention schedule and are not used except to recover the service. After a restore, expiry and privacy deletions are reapplied before lead administration resumes. Browser-stored selections live only in your browser.
Children
The Service is not directed to children and is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above. Questions or requests: support@wheretohq.com.
